Fasting in Christianity is an ascetic feat and a system of abstinence from life’s pleasures and blessings, which a Christian takes upon himself for a certain time. It is believed that for the first time fasting was prescribed by God to the progenitors of mankind — Adam and Eve, who were forbidden to eat from the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil («forbidden fruit»).
